What is genuine Baltic amber and how does it work?
Baltic amber is fossilized tree resin mined from the shores of the Baltic Sea. It contains a substance called succinic acid which is a naturally occuring anti-inflammatory. When worn on the skin, body heat causes the amber to release an oil containing the succinic acid, which when absorbed into the skin, works like a natural analgesic, blocking pain and reducing inflammation. Baltic amber has some of the highest concentrations of succinic acid found in nature and has been a natural remedy for pain relief for hundreds of years.
How are Baltic amber teething necklaces made?
Every Baltic amber necklace is unique because each of the amber beads naturally vary in size, colour and shape. Lithuanian Artisans lovingly handcraft our designs using centuries old processing traditions. Each bead is carefully polished so that it rests gently against the skin, ensuring maximum contact and comfort. The string is knotted between each and every bead and then a safety clasp is used to finish each piece.
How will a Baltic amber teething necklace help my child?
Wearing Baltic amber will help to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with teething, as well as boost the bodies own immune system and healing ability. The resulting effect is a less irritated and calmer child.
How long before I see results?
Baltic amber generally works for everyone and your child should feel some pain relief within an hour or so (once the beads have had some time to warm up). Consistent wear should also help improve conditions.
When can my child start wearing the amber teething necklace/ bracelet?
All children experience teething at different ages. We generally recommend starting using the necklace or bracelet at around 4 months of age or when a child can support his/ her head. Amber jewellery can be worn well past 3 years of age.
What size should I get?
For babies, we recommend Baltic amber teething necklaces to be 33cm long. This size will fit nearly all teething babies. We recommend using a piece of string to measure around the baby's neck if unsure. Most importantly, the necklace must be a comfortable length for your baby and you should be able to slip your two fingers between the necklace and your baby's neck. The necklace should not be long enough for your baby to bring it to his/her mouth since it should not be chewed. Babies can continue wearing this size necklaces until they begin to outgrow it around age 4 or 5 depending on the child.
Are the amber teething necklaces/ bracelets safe?
Our amber pieces have been specifically designed with your child's safety in mind. For example, each amber bead is individually knotted onto the string, so if it came apart, no more than one bead would come loose. If swallowed, they are small enough that they do not pose a choking hazard, and are non-toxic. Necklaces should only be worn under strict caregiver supervision and should always be removed while sleeping.
How can I care for my jewellery?
To clean your amber necklace, use a soft flannel cloth or an unused toothbrush dampened with clean lukewarm water. Dry in the sun or with a clean tissue or towel. You may also bring back the shine and lustre to the amber by wiping each bead using a light application of olive oil on a clean cloth. Try to avoid use in water (especially chlorine) as this will weaken the string.
